KWAZULU NATAL FREE STATE AREA POSITION: AREA DIRECTOR


Position: Area Director – Meals on Wheels Community Services – KwaZulu Natal Free State Area Office – based in Pinetown


Job Purpose


The Area Director is responsible for the successful leadership and management of the organization according to the strategic direction set by the Board of Directors.


Primary Duties and Responsibilities


The Area Director performs some or all of the following:


  • Leadership
  • Operational planning and management
  • Program planning and management
  • Human resources planning and management
  • Financial planning and management
  • Community relations/advocacy
  • Risk management

Qualifications


Education:


  • University degree in a related field (Bachelor of Community Development Studies or Business Administration, or equivalent).

Professional designation: None


Knowledge, skills and abilities:


  • Knowledge of leadership and management principles as they relate to nonprofit/voluntary organizations
  • Knowledge of all relevant legislation applicable to voluntary sector organizations including: employment standards, human rights, labour laws, occupational health and safety, charities/NGO, taxation, etc.
  • Knowledge of current community challenges and opportunities relating to the mission of the organization
  • Knowledge of human resources management
  • Knowledge of financial management
  • Knowledge of project management
  • Proficiency in the use of computers for:
    • Word processing
    • Financial management systems
    • E-mail
    • Internet

Experience:


  • 5 or more years of progressive management experience in an NGO sector organization and community development.

Salary will be based on the SDA denominational (SAUC) wage-scale with due consideration for qualification and experience.
