Established in 1964 by Dr. Denis Baird, Meals on Wheels Community Services began as a response to the pressing needs of the elderly in East London, South Africa. Dr. Baird initiated a fundraising campaign to acquire the first Meals on Wheels delivery vehicle. With the support of a dedicated group of compassionate women, he secured access to a local church kitchen on weekdays, marking the humble beginnings of our organization. Little did Dr. Baird and his initial team know that they were laying the foundation for a remarkable legacy of compassion.
